american movie – the making of Northwestern

This clip isn’t Sabotage related, exactly, but it embodies what I feel is the Midwestern Spirit. Such despair. Such fatalism. It’s from American Movie, the great documentary about a Milwaukee filmmaker and his struggle to complete his horror masterpiece.

Sabotage Cafe 5 – Disillusionment / Conclusion

This is the final video in the series. Note the Nobody’s Fool logo drawn onto Cheryl’s sweatshirt. You’d almost think they were a real band!

The Sabotage Cafe 4 – Where I’m Living Now

Here’s part four of our five part series. In this one, Cheryl gives a tour of the squat in which she lives. It also features music by the Swing Heils, a Westchester punk band–that’s Chris Sweeney, one of my students, on vocals. The concert footage was shot at the legendary ABC No Rio.

Sabotage Cafe 3 – New Tattoo

This one is, I think my favorite. Mandy, our actress, riffed her way through it, and she came up with some great stuff. “Tramp stamp.” What a terrifically descriptive phrase.

The Sabotage Cafe – Street Level

Here’s video two! The frighteningly doped up guy at the beginning just happened to be walking past. We traded a cigarette for the rights to film him and he left us all feeling desperately sad.

The Sabotage Café — The Fire Escape

Some friends and I put together a bunch of youtube videos for the new novel. This is the first one, full of youthful rage and ennui. More will be on the way…

Pratt Playwrights

April 27, 2007

My playwriting students will be mounting a marathon reading of the plays they’ve been working on all semester this coming Tuesday in the Pratt Student Union.  Festivities will commence at 7 pm.  The plays are all about twenty minutes long.  You’ll laugh.  You’ll cry.  You’ll be embarrassed for your past self as you cower in the presence of their precociousness.
